Esther was a young, beautiful, Jewish woman living in Persia. She was unknowingly thrust into one of the greatest stories of all time, due to a very strange turn of events. Esther proved to be a woman of unusual wisdom and courage, facing adversity and wickedness with a quiet confidence and grace. While God is not directly mentioned in this book, His hand and perfect timing are seen in every turn of events.
The Setting: This drama begins in the foreign kingdom of Babylonia, where God’s people were temporarily residing. Characters are introduced and the stage is set for Esther to make her appearance.
This lesson looks at the power of Esther’s influence and self control and her plan to speak on the behalf of her people because of Haman’s wicked plan.
Much of the drama of Esther’s approach to the king hangs on “waiting,” which is discussed in this lesson. Learning to discern God’s timing is very important in our spiritual maturity.
The story of Esther does not end with her confrontation with Haman. The story is neatly tied together in the final chapter, with good winning over evil!
